Daniel Jiménez

Ollin Mictlan is conceived as a sonic ritual that reinterprets, through a contemporary lens, the mythical journey of the souls through Mictlan, the underworld in the Mexica cosmovision. Through immersive listening and ceremonial gestures, the piece configures a space of memory, collective catharsis, and contemplation, where the sacred and the profane converge to reactivate the mythical resonances of the Mesoamerican and huehuetl, experimental soundscapes, and performative actions, the work invokes the ritual essence of sound as a medium of transmutation. Ollin Mictlan invites the audience to traverse symbolic strata of consciousness, where suffering (tlazolmiquiztli) and pain (yolcualoyotl) are sublimated into aesthetic and spiritual experience.

Daniel Jiménez is a composer and pianist from Mexico. His work explores sonic hybridization, memory, and identity through experimental and performative languages. He has toured internationally, with premieres in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, the United States, and Latin America. His career includes residencies at institutions such as Harvard University and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.

In 2024, he premiered the video dance Nii Juu Sei, filmed at the Berlin Wall with the support of Stiftung Berliner Mauer. He is currently a Professor of Composition and Piano at the Cultural Complex of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla and Deputy Director of Galería 16.

Jiménez directs N0D Ensemble / Experimental World Music Project and develops El Archipiélago de los Otros, seeking to merge ritual perspectives in his work. His artistic creation delves into suffering and pain as aesthetic territories, transforming vulnerability into immersive sonic experiences that invite reflection and catharsis.
