Ellipsis Rare Books is an outpost on the desolate borderlands of the real, specializing in rare, out-of-print, and unusual books and ephemera pertaining to “formerly forbidden knowledge from Alchemy to Zen”. We like to think we collect and compile existential maps, providing a unique perspective on the territory in which we find ourselves including psychedelia, unusual history, folklore, and esoterica. We pride ourselves on participating in the ongoing preservation of understudied and underappreciated movements and moments, with a particular focus on midcentury occult revival publishing as well as early spiritualist and New Thought material.
Based in New York, Ellipsis promotes books as treasuries, tools, and totems, with a particular interest in association copies in homage to modern book collecting’s connection to the 18th century secularization of the cult of saints into the cult of genius. We are particularly proud to include books owned by Papus, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Jake Stratton-Kent, and Raven Grimassi in our current collection.
Bio
Founded in 2019 by husband and wife team, Andrew Lenoir and Charlotte Anderson, Ellipsis Rare Books is located between Red Hook, Brooklyn and Amagansett, NY. Curators, collectors, and publishers, they are evangelists for taking strange books into dark places and experimenting with what happens.
