LECTURE

Ritual & Epiphany in the Mysteries of Mithras
Through the visual culture of the Cult of Mithras we will explore the esoteric dimensions of Mithraic ritual performance; its employment of initiatory violence and the epiphanic visions its rituals inspired. The crux of its initiatory processes sought to induce a state of non-dual awareness. We will trace these transitions through the initiatory frescoes of the Capua Vetere mithraea and freestanding depictions of the Mithraic God – Aeon/Kronos.
